Julio Voltio's long awaited debut is here. Known for his memorable collaboration
with salsero Jerry Rivera, Voltio has carved a well deserved reputation
as one of the best rhyme masters in the game . The album starts with a
magnificent spoken word "Intro", that taps into a mesmerasing
and soulful R&B groove. Tender and heartfelt, this intro breaks away
from the usual braggadocio that has become the standard norm in reggaeton
records. Imagine, D'angelo mixed with Frankie J and you get the idea.
Excellent.
Next, Voltio's salsa roots, become evident in his reinterpretation of
Hector Lavoe's classic "Juanito Marana".Using a piano sample,
and adding a cool salsa drum loop; the track has a breezy latin feel,
that's miles ahead from most reggaeton/salsa mixes. Things then, go into
hip hop with "Maleante De Carton", a bouncy and catchy laid
back ode to wannabe thugs. The tempo goes up a few notches with deep reggaeton
tracks, like the grooving "Bumper" and the supersonic "Bambo".
Both of this tracks, bring out speed and flexibility to Voltio's vocal
delivery, that prove his reputation is no joke. In a fitting finale, Puerto
Rico's legendary salsa combo " La Sonora Poncena" spark things
up with " Achero Pa' un Lao". Bridging the gap between salsa
and reggaeton and blurring the line between sonero (salsa singer) and
rapper, this high energy closer will bring a smile to those who take their
dancing seriously.
Triumphant and diverse, with a state of the art production courtesy of
Elias De Leon and DJ Sonic; this record delivers on Voltio's promise as
a the next big contender in the reggaeton scene.
