Sometime things come better in pairs. Especially when the two pieces add up to more than the sum of their parts. Tito y Polaco prove this to be true in their latest release “Fuera de Serie” The record feels relaxed and confident, Tito y Polaco have matured, as they share rhyming duties and the result are nothing but an all around experience of what a Reggaeton record can offer. “Tu Me Guayastes” featuring Nicky Jam is a steady burning dancehall number. It’s sexy and catchy with an all around reggaeton beat that recalls the very best production by Harry Digital. The party beats continue until “La Calle Esta Dificil” and Andamos Prestao” here we see that there are more sides to Tito y Polaco than dance floor beats. A hip hop tale of life in the barrio violence and redemption, the two songs find the duo rhyming about the unforgiving realities of thug life. The tracks come replete with banging beats that often switch from reggaeton to hip hop, once again the production feels fresh and clean this time courtesy of DJ Dicky. The best moment comes from Lito with “Auxilio” a slow tempo track that conjures a world where a 911 operator listens helplessly as drug addiction and domestic violence take their toll on the city residents in Puerto Rico. The song builds up the tension over Lito’s superb rhymes that unfold into the kind of storytelling that we come to expect from the very best of hip hop. Which brings us “Na Que Buscar Con Mi Lampara” the continuation of the now famous battle between Vico C and Tito y Polaco. After last year’s “El Bueno El Malo y El Feo” became one the best put downs in recent memory, Tito y Polaco come back with an vicious attack on old Vico C and his crew. Like the best in the tradition battle songs it’s a mix of funny put downs that escalate the current animosity among certain puertorican Mc’s. Overall at 57 minutes this record stands up to the best of them. The variety of proven dance stompers and pure hip hop story telling between the best production by beat masters such as Noriega/ Eliel/ Luny Tunes and Harry Digital demonstrate Lito Y Polaco willingness to expand their sonic palate has paid off. With any luck they’ll keep themselves together and continue to advance the world of reggaeton up to the next level.
