What's that sound coming out of
the street? If you need to ask
then maybe you don't need to know.
We all know of reggaeton's humble
origins . Jamaican laborers working
on the Panama Canal brought the
reggae beats to South America,
then it was absorbed by that sponge
of musical sounds known as Puerto
Rico. As urban dance music goes
reggaeton has it all, an explosive
mix of dance styles it has taken
over the Puerto Rican airways.
Everything in "La Isla"
revolves around a soundtrack of
Tego, Don Omar and Ivy queen.
Reggaeton is Puerto Rico and Miami's
undisputed homegrown beat. But
the question in the minds of many
is how far and wide will reggaeton
go ? Barrio 305 knows the sound
coming out of every decent sound
system in Miami has nothing but
Zion and Lenox Tego and Daddy.
Reggaeton is Miami. All the barrios
in NYC are perreando to the sandungeo.
It's only a matter of time before
the rest of the world catches
on to what Barrio 305 has been
saying all these years. In a recent
article the BBC England reported
that dancehall in the UK is being
replaced by clubs playing cuts
by Luny tunes and Tego. Like maestro
Hector Lavoe would say "
para que sufras" even as
far London is concerned there
is no fresher sound . With no
radio airplay no mainstream T.V.
exposure word of mouth taking
us to the next level.
